Rajasthan Royals’ home stadium deadlock resolved with strategic safety assurances
The standoff between Rajasthan Royals and state authorities has been resolved, paving the way for upgrades at Sawai Mansingh Stadium ahead of IPL matches.

Rajasthan Royals had again caught the limelight due to a deadlock which finally received resolution after a high level meeting between the franchise and the state officials.
The government has stepped up to meet the upgradation deadlines of the Jaipur based Sawai Mansingh Stadium in line with hosting 4 IPL matches in the pink city. Ranjit Barthakur, chairperson of Rajasthan Royals along with Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma, has taken the initiative to end this long stalemate.
Planning depth of the initiative
The Rajasthan State Sports Council partnered with PWD, has sanctioned a fund of ₹16 crore for the refurbishment. The stadium seating capacity has been targeted to increase up to 50,000. The south pavilion is being revamped along with fencing replacements to mitigate the identified safety concerns.
“Our focus remains on making cricket more accessible engaging for our fans. With the introduction of the live music stage, we are ensuring match days are more than just cricket," Royals CEO Jake McCrum said.
Genesis of the infrastructural stalemate
The deadlock was caused by the Tata Projects’ 700 page audit report highlighting serious safety and infrastructural concerns at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium followed by the Royals’ demand of an indemnity waiver from the state government. The situation was further worsened due to the strained relations between the franchise and Rajasthan Cricket Association due to match fixing allegations from the latter's end in 2025 which were denied by the franchise.
