The state government has officially transferred the site to a major upgrade of RM184.32 million that will unleash the setting and experience of the iconic stadium dramatically in anticipation of the 2027 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games

When the global celebration is submerged with the rooted traditions, the birth of an epochal event takes place. One of the significant moves is being conveyed for Sarawak, where the stadium of Sarawak is being rebuilt not just as a venue, but as a stage for regional pride, cultural festivity, and elite sport.
The state government has officially transferred the site to a major upgrade of RM184.32 million that will unleash the setting and experience of the iconic stadium dramatically in anticipation of the 2027 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games. Although the football pitch will be deliberately out of the scope at present, in case it may be damaged in pre-Games ceremonies and performances, larger-scale renovations will improve the aesthetic and functional standard of the venue.

Substantial advancements for the sports infrastructure of Sarawak Stadium
The main elements of the upgrade will be a new roof truss system, which will transform the appearance of the outside of the stadium, the replacement of all seating with modern foldable seats, and a considerable enhancement of the interiors, the terraces, and VIP facilities, the requirements of which would be to be on the international level and make the spectators feel more comfortable. The primary entrance will also be redesigned to have a more respectable landing point to the officials and the guests, as opposed to the current point of access under the building.
In order to give time to the trials, rehearsals, and final adjustments before the Games commence in September, officials have reiterated that all SEA Games facilities in Sarawak would be completed by June 2027.
A Step to Global Performance Standards for Athletes
Upon its completion, the revamped Stadium Sarawak will present its athletes with better conditions, facilities, and an atmosphere that will comply with international competition, allowing the regional participants to train towards the SEA Games and other competitions, and positioning Sarawak as an emerging sporting location in the region.
