Tehri Emerges As Uttarakhand's Adventure And Winter Sports Hub
Positioned in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, Tehri is being developed as a major winter and adventure sports destination to strengthen the region’s sports-led economy.

Devbhoomi, or the land of the gods, is now pacing up to emerge as a dedicated winter sports arena, thereby giving a boost to the sports-led economy.
CM Pushkar Singh Dhami took the opportunity to inaugurate the Himalayan O2 Tehri Lake festival as he highlighted the strategic relevance of the natural resource in boosting tourism, encouraging sports adventure, and spreading environmental awareness.
“The national and international water sports competitions held here are not only allowing athletes to showcase their talent but are also helping Uttarakhand gain a new identity on the global sports map," he said.

Tehri Lake anchored sports development
Koti Colony's new Tehri ropeway was also announced to support the vision of adventure sports. Further, Tehri shall be developed into a winter sports hub for which sports like kayaking, canoeing, jet skiing, parasailing, scuba diving, and other adventure sports arenas are also being made available at the place. Additionally, the CM also highlighted the training facilities, the area where more than 400 people are already learning paragliding techniques.
The water sport anchored growth shall be anchored around self-employment opportunities fostering economic development for the youth. Tehri shall be evolved as a global center constituting a confluence of sports, culture, and nature.
State led push to infrastructure led development
The government has also been invested in this transformation with initiatives like the state's first high-altitude marathon at Adi Kailash, the Asian Open Short Track Speed Skating Trophy, and the MTB Challenge at Mana. Further, a sanction of ₹1300 crore has been made for the overall development of the area, including construction of a ring road and the Timad village as a tourism site.
