Construction depth and engineering complexities
The project has been planned to in three stages with the first stage involving construction of a new players’ pavilion and a modern media centre. The ground's inadequate drainage system is also targeted to be replaced. The second stage shall involve the demolition of the eastern part of the ground to form a large east stand. The third stage involves the creation of cost heavy fitness centres, medical facilities and recovery rooms. The government has also planned a separate ₹1.5 crore modern physiotherapy centre to turn Green Park into an athlete recovery and training hub.
Another striking feature about this stadium sanction was the proposal by the divisional commissioner Vijayendra Pandian to reduce the rent paid to the state government. This was done with the vision to make the stadium competitive in hosting major tournaments like IPL, UP T20 League and other international matches.
Center's future roadmap for UP's sports anchored infrastructure development
The recent construction of the Gorakhpur International Stadium and Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut are evidence of the sports infrastructure overhaul envisioned by the Yogi government for UP. Gorakhpur MP Ravi Kishan Shukla proclaimed the CM's vision as being a part of the Centre's Khelega India Tabhi Toh Badhega India slogan.
“If the youth plays, the nation blossoms. A healthy body is the foundation of success, and sports and yoga play a vital role in physical and mental fitness.”- CM Yogi Adityanath
