VNSGU Approves ₹400 Crore Sports Complex with Olympic-Standard Pool & Day-Night Cricket Stadium
Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) has approved a ₹400 crore sports complex aimed at transforming Surat’s sporting ecosystem.

Where athletic aspiration intersects with strategic investment, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) is laying the groundwork for a transformative leap in Surat’s sports infrastructure. In a decisive step to position South Gujarat as a competitive sporting hub, the university’s Board of Management approved the ₹400 crore VNSGU Sports Complex to be developed on its expansive campus.
The bold initiative is central to the plan of a new Olympic-standard swimming pool with dedicated lanes, a precise timing system, and a spectator gallery capable of hosting more than 300 spectators, making it suitable for state- and national-level events and future international camps.
Stadium and World-Class Pool to Boost Competitiveness
Beyond the aquatic centre, the existing cricket ground will be upgraded into a 14,000-seat day-night stadium, enabling longer fixtures under floodlights and enhancing the region’s capacity to host high-profile cricket tournaments. The hockey venue and athletic track will be brought up to international standards, while purpose-built courts and arenas for sports such as shooting, volleyball, kho-kho, and pickleball will expand competitive opportunities within an integrated campus setting.
In addition, a multi-storey high-performance centre will be developed to offer coaching support, strength-and-conditioning training, physiotherapy, injury management, and rehabilitation services, creating a holistic athlete development ecosystem.
Youth Attraction through Upgraded Sports Infrastructure
Officials anticipate the VNSGU Sports Complex will draw local and regional youth talent by providing year-round access to high-quality training facilities and competitive platforms previously unavailable in South Gujarat.
