Inclusive Sports Infrastructure Advancements for Para-Athletes in India
Haryana’s initiatives align with national efforts to strengthen facilities and competitive support for para-athletes nationwide. The inspirational vision is drawn through the act of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in upgrading several national and regional training centers with accessible equipment, adapted coaching spaces, tactile guidance systems, and mobility-friendly amenities to prepare para-athletes for international events, including Paralympics qualifiers.
Several states are also retrofitting major stadiums with ramps, accessible seating, accessible restrooms, dedicated warm-up spaces, and tactile signage to support athletes with disabilities, enhancing competitiveness and inclusivity at regional and national para-sport events.
Under the Khelo India Para-Sports Scheme, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has established elite training hubs and para-sports coaching academies in cities like Guwahati, Bengaluru, and Lucknow, offering sport-specific adaptive training and performance analysis.
These developments reflect a growing national commitment not only to host para-sport events, but also to empower athletes through infrastructure that supports training, competition, rehabilitation, and long-term performance.
