Highlighting the importance of the project, R. Jayakumari, District Sports Officer (Tirupattur), stated that the new facility will motivate youngsters across the district to actively participate in diverse sports and compete at State and national-level tournaments.
Sports Infrastructure Expansion Across 10 Acres in Tirupattur
Spread over 10 acres, the upcoming sports infrastructure project is being constructed on temple land under the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HRCE) Department and will be maintained by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT). Officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), which is executing the project, pointed out that district-level competitions were previously held in college playgrounds that lacked modern amenities and dedicated training facilities.
Stadium Features, Training Facilities, and Modern Amenities
Designed as a comprehensive sporting hub, the complex will include a spectator gallery with seating capacity for more than 3,500 people to host football matches and athletic events. It will feature an eight-lane 400-metre athletics track along with two courts each for basketball, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, tennis, kabaddi, and football. Facilities for javelin throw practice will also be incorporated.
In addition to sports arenas, the campus will provide an administrative block, separate accommodation and changing rooms for athletes, washrooms, drinking water facilities, CCTV surveillance, and a modern gymnasium. Dedicated parking spaces for two-wheelers, cars, and buses will also be created, along with rainwater harvesting systems and stormwater drainage infrastructure, alongwith a 200-seat open-air theatre for award ceremonies, coaching sessions, and sports-related events.
Once completed, the Tirupattur sports complex is expected to become a landmark centre for nurturing local talent and strengthening Tamil Nadu’s grassroots sporting ecosystem.
