Ahmedabad buckles up its upcoming Commonwealth preparations with the blueprints of its new infrastructural marvel
Ahmedabad is positioning itself as a future global sports hub with the ₹5,050 crore Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave, anchored around the Narendra Modi Stadium.

India's emerging sporting capital has geared up its preparations to host the 2nd Commonwealth Games 2030 with the masterplan of one of its kind,architectural wonder Sardar Vallabhai Patel Sports Enclave in Motera, Ahmedabad anchoring around the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Dovetailing its bid for Olympic 2036,Gujarat government's stellar mega sports project worth ₹5050 crores, envisioned to spread across 650 acres, has been planned in two phases. The State and AUDA co-partnered initiative under the public private funding framework has veiled out its targeted plans for the construction of the country's largest sports precinct.
Detailed blueprint of the sports advancement
This vision has brought together firms like BDP, Cox architecture and Collage designs to build a trio of a sports venue constituting an aquatics center, a tennis venue and an indoor arena. The tennis court shall have a 10,000 seat center court accompanied by two adjacent show courts of 5,000 and 3,000 seat capacities respectively, located on the Eastern side of the Narendra Modi stadium. The eastern most extreme of the megastructure will have a 18,000 seat, indoor arena to accommodate games like basketball and gymnastics during the Commonwealth Games. The Western end shall be facilitated with an exemplar 12,000 spectator worth aquatics center, during swimming events. A National Institute of Sports Excellence(NISE) shall also be incorporated sandwiched between the tennis court and Narendra modi stadium with training halls and biomedical facilities.
Pillars of the project's vision
Manisha Bhartia, urbanism director and head of BDP India, said: “Our vision for the Sports Enclave is to create an inclusive, sustainable and distinctly Indian destination for world sport.” The Sabarmati River based prestige project had incorporated all measures of climate resilience with natural ventilation and shading devices along with the biodiversity parks along the riverfront forming a natural air purifier. The urban parks with plaza gardens will provide for year round community access thereby boosting inclusivity at grassroots level.
