Amravati Municipal Corporation’s Sports Infra Debt Waived by Centre
Providing targeted relief to unlock stalled sports projects, the State government has waived penalties and interest imposed on the Amravati Municipal Corporation for unauthorized land use linked specifically to sports infrastructure development.

In the field of sports infrastructure, the state plays an extremely significant role in rescuing civic bodies from the stalemate condition of projects at times. Amravati Municipal Corporation has taken a sigh of relief after the center steps up. Ahead of the Navi Mumbai stadium, targeted to have a 100000-seating capacity, CM Devendra Fadnavis has decided to allocate 16708 sq meters of land near the Navsari region.

Depth of the Debt
The situation started with the sanctioning of the concerned land registered as a playground under the development body. But before the allocation itself, the municipal body had started its construction in agreements with third parties, which made it liable to fines of ₹10.90 crore along with interest for the days when the land had been used without approval, which summed up to ₹3.56 crore.The municipal body was knee-deep in debt of ₹350 crores, which included pending employee payments and contractor payments. In order to aid this critical condition of the municipal body, the cabinet has decided to waive the fine for land use prior approval along with the interest that has accumulated.
Center to the rescue of sports-led development
This move comes as a strategic push from the stare to the development of sport-anchored infrastructure. With the recent announcement of the Sports Prohodini initiative , the government's goal is further entrusted. Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Revenue Minister of Maharashtra decided to relax the conditions. "The decision was taken keeping in mind the city's contribution to producing athletes of national and international repute," said entrusted Bawankule.
