Dharwad Emerges as South India’s New Multisport Hub
Union Ministers Mansukh Mandaviya and Prahlad Joshi inaugurated a multidisciplinary sports complex in Dharwad built on 1.6 acres with an estimated cost of ₹50 crore.

Why should North India only prepare for hosting international events? South is also racing against time to upgrade its sports ecosystem. Right after the Mandya-based cricket stadium and the international cricket facility located in Anekal, Karnataka, climb another step on their stairway to comprehensive sports development.
Union ministers Mansukh Mandaviya and Prahlad Joshi received the prestige of inaugurating a multidisciplinary sports complex in Dharwad. The project has been constructed across 1.6 acres of land and is being estimated to foster ₹50 crore.

PSU funding model
Companies like ONGC and NMDC are funding the project as parts of their CSR activities. The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi shall play the role of the guiding engineer along with the Delhi-based School of Planning and Architecture.
Blueprint of the project architectural design
The complex is being made in a 3-tiered format, with the ground floor of the swimming arena being used for a water treatment plant, bathrooms, and office triage rooms. The furry floor shall host games like kabaddi, wrestling, taekwondo, table tennis, and gymnastics while also accommodating athlete dormitories and restrooms. The basement area shall host archery and shooting while also having administrative spaces. The first and second floors shall also have a gymnasium and a badminton court.The complex shall house a well-designed swimming arena to aid the athletes’ accessibility to world-class facilities and decentralize elite sports infrastructure.
The venue has been built majorly by using steel as a material in spectator stands, galleries, and athlete rooms also. The construction responsibility has been given to the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, which is a public sector enterprise of Indian Railways.
