“The interesting thing is that it’s different from MS Dhoni, from a captaincy point of view, it’s so different to Rohit Sharma, so it’s consistent,” he said. He further added that when Virat Kohli bats, he’s on the field, that’s what he does. He also called him a great fielder and said that he is always around when the stump needs cover. He brings that energy and aggression on the ground. Overall, he praised the kind of attitude and enthusiasm he brings to the match.

Jonty Rhodes Defended Kohli & Rohit During Their Slump
Jonty Rhodes has previously defended Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma when they faced harsh criticism for their performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Jan, 2025. India lost that series against Australia, 1-3. Rohit scored 31 runs in the three test matches, and Virat contributed 119 runs following his dip. In an interview with IAN, he said, “ Everybody’s entitled to their opinion. Cricket is that kind of game and I think the cricket players themselves in this day and age, there is no escape from the public, whether it's fans who love them or fans who are criticizing them with social media, journalism these days. Everybody seems to be a cricketing expert and players learn to live with that.”
Mutual Respect Between Jonty Rhodes & Virat Kohli
Although Virat Kohli and Jonty Rhodes never had the chance to play against each other. Rhodes retired from international cricket in 2003, long before Kohli’s debut in the sport in Aug, 2008. The two respect each other mutually. The former ace fielder has coached the two franchises of the Indian Premier League (Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians) in the early days of IPL, which allowed him to closely observe Virat’s growth over the years.
Sportscape believes that Virat Kohli aggression became his trademark as a former Indian captain and as a player. His aggressive approach plays a key role in his performance, and the cricketers worldwide acknowledge that quality within him.
