High-Level FIFA and CAF Delegation Reviews Kenya’s Sports Infrastructure in Nairobi Ahead of AFCON and FIFA Series

Kenya has stayed in the news for its strong sports infrastructural overhaul being brought about by President William Ruto. Be it from paying a hefty fee of $30 million to host the African Cup of Nations 2037 to its stadiums, Kenya is not ready to leave any stone unturned in bringing about a sports renaissance of its own.

A high delegation review meeting was hosted by the capital city of Nairobi-based Football Kenya Federation for inspection of key sports facilities and preparedness for the FIFA series along with AFCON.

A thorough inspection was carried out by a team constituting Sports DG Timothy Kilimo; FIFA representatives Kanizat Ibrahim and Souleiman Waberi from the FIFA Council; Deputy Chief Member Associations Officer and Director for Africa Gelson Fernández; the presidents of COSAFA member associations; and some CECAFA presidents.The meeting was also graced by the presence of acting CAF general secretary Samson Adamu, ahead of the FIFA Series Finals set for tomorrow at the Nyayo National Stadium, which further puts Nairobi on the global hosting map.

They reviewed significant facilities like the centerpiece of Kenya's sports development plan, namely the Talanta Stadium. The event-based sports ecosystem overhaul is being envisioned to establish Kenya as one of the top hosting countries of events as large as the FIFA and Afcon series.

“We did an inspection tour of Talanta Stadium to assess its progress ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations. We subsequently launched the "Boots for All" initiative by FIFA, which forms part of its broader strategy to distribute free football boots to disadvantaged children globally in order to promote grassroots football," said President of the Football Kenya Federation Hussein Mohammad.
