PIB and New India Samachar Highlight Khelo India as a Driver of Jobs and Olympic Success
The government is positioning sports as a driver of employment, skill development, and career growth through the Khelo India mission, as highlighted by the Press Information Bureau and the New India Samachar fortnightly magazine

Sports as a medium for employment generation, skill enhancement, and career progression are being prioritized by the government through its flagship mission of the Khelo India initiative.
The PIB took to its social media to share the New India Samachar fortnightly magazine’s emphasis on the Khelo India Mission. It mainly focuses on identifying talent, developing infrastructure to support the Center of Exile, and creating job opportunities. The primary vision of the project is to provide quality infrastructure facilities to athletes from the grassroots level and aid in their sports careers.

The One State, One Sport strategy has been heavily emphasized by the government and the states under the Khelo India project. Adjacent to this, another 14 sports have been chosen to be prioritized in order to increase chances of making it to the podium at the Olympics.
Targeted 14 sports
In order to boost performance and have a streamlined approach to Olympic success, the government is bidding for all individual initiatives pursued under the Khelo India mission to be anchored around these 14 sports, namely, archery, boxing, shooting, badminton, wrestling, hockey, weightlifting, cycling, athletics, table tennis, judo, swimming, fencing, and rowing.
The Khelo India Mission's Five Pillars
- Training facilities at different levels will be set up to find gifted athletes and help them reach professional competence.
- Development and capacity-building programs will be implemented for coaches and support personnel.
- Cutting-edge technology and sports science will be applied more effectively in the sports industry.
- Sports culture will be promoted and given a platform through leagues and competitions.
- Sports facilities will be built to support training and competitions.
