Significance of the infrastructural facility
The vision behind the project was to provide accessibility to the youth to sharpen their skills instead of practicing in Cornerstone due to lack of adequate infrastructure. Further another announcement was also made at the inauguration of a full skate arena at the capital city of Male. The Red Bull Park and the Central Park, which have become hubs of skaters, specifically the youth, shall now be decluttered, thanks to the new skating rink.
What does this project mean for India
Exercising its often powerful soft power diplomacy, Maldives is gearing up to emerge as a major sports ecosystem which gives a direct impetus to Indian sports ecosystem, to start investing in non-traditional sports facilities for maintaining its image as a major sports infrastructural hub of the global south. Additionally, the collaborative sports projects of the Maldives need to be kept in vigilance for alliances with powers like China. Indian initiatives like the revival of ice rink at Himachal Pradesh are being taken for the advancement of non traditional sports.
