Ri Bhoi Artificial Football Turf Near Completion Boosts Meghalaya Sports Infrastructure
A recent high-level inspection led by Nongpoh MLAs Mayralborn Syiem and Bobby L. Nongbet confirmed that the turf is almost ready for public use

Good news for Meghalaya!
It was only yesterday when a formal review meeting was conducted by high officials of the state to inspect the progress of the sports infrastructure constructed by the Sports Association of Meghalaya, ahead of the National Games 2027 to be hosted in Meghalaya.
Today brings another ray of sunshine for its athletes as the much-awaited artificial football turf located in Ri Bhoi at the Umbuda village is nearly complete and shall be opened for the public soon. The estimated cost of the synthetic turf was predicted to be ₹10.93 crores, according to Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Shakliar Warjri, back in 2024.

Constituents of the review team
Hon’ble MLAs of Nongpoh Constituency, Shri Mayralborn Syiem and Shri Bobby L. Nongbet, DSO, Nongpoh, along with officials of SSCM, carried out an extensive inspection of the targeted area to check for all updates of the project. Among other facilities visited by him were the Chinchona Pahamsyiem Synthetic Track at Pahamsyiem and Sohkhwai Sports Association Playground.
Current updates on the sports facilities
Officials gave the update regarding the Umbuda turf, for the track is about 95% complete, while work at Pahamsyiem is progressing steadily. The Sohkhwai ground is also being pursued actively and shall be completed soon.
The MLA later addressed the media channels to express his satisfaction with the progress and highlighted the significance of these facilities being the hub for youth empowerment. Quality infrastructure shall be provided to the athletes at regional levels, improving the state's scope to perform better at big games.
