Thailand Open Sees Indian Stars Storm Into Quarterfinals in Strong Medal Push
Thailand Open 2026 witnesses a major Indian surge as PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, and Satwik-Chirag advance into the quarterfinals.

India produced one of its strongest collective performances of the season at the Thailand Open) after PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, and the top-seeded men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced to the quarterfinals of the BWF Super 500 tournament in Bangkok. The Thailand Open campaign has now emerged as a major momentum-builder for Indian badminton ahead of the mid-season international circuit.
Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu delivered a dominant straight-games victory over Denmark’s Amalie Schulz, winning 21-13, 21-15 in just 28 minutes. The Indian star now faces Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi in what is expected to be one of the biggest quarterfinal clashes of the Thailand Open. Sindhu’s movement and attacking control during the second-round encounter reflected signs of renewed consistency following an inconsistent start to the 2026 season.

Lakshya Sen also continued his impressive comeback form with a commanding 21-12, 21-13 victory over China’s Zhu Xuanchen. The Indian shuttler looked sharp throughout the contest, combining aggressive net play with deceptive cross-court winners to control rallies comfortably. Sen is now set for a difficult Thailand Open quarterfinal against home favourite and world No. 2 Kunlavut Vitidsarn.
Meanwhile, Satwik-Chirag once again underlined why they remain among the strongest doubles pairs in world badminton. The Indian duo defeated Malaysia’s Muhammad Haikal and Bryan Jeremy Goonting 21-12, 21-19 to move into the last eight. The former world No. 1 pair, who also won the Thailand Open title previously, are now scheduled to face Japan’s Takumi Nomura and Yuichi Shimogami in the quarterfinals.
However, the Thailand Open also brought disappointment for several Indian players. Kidambi Srikanth, Malvika Bansod, and Devika Sihag exited the tournament during the second-round stage, ending hopes of a broader Indian presence across categories.
The tournament carries major significance within the BWF World Tour structure as players compete for ranking points and momentum ahead of upcoming international championships. With India’s top stars now progressing deep into the Thailand Open, the performances are likely to boost confidence within the national badminton setup following mixed results earlier in the season.
Sportscape observes that the Thailand Open is increasingly becoming a critical performance indicator for India’s top badminton players as the country attempts to maintain consistency across both singles and doubles categories on the global circuit.
Sportscape believes that strong results in tournaments like the Thailand Open could significantly influence India’s preparation strategy ahead of the BWF World Tour Finals and future Olympic qualification cycles.
