Kenya’s AFCON 2027 Push Gains Momentum with New Voi Stadium Boost
Kenya’s ambitious sports infrastructure drive under William Ruto continues to gather pace with the foundation stone laid for the KSh 950 million Voi Stadium in Taita Taveta County

Here we go again! Kenya is back with another sports infrastructure marvel. President William Ruto wants to leave no stone unturned in his transformation of Kenya. In his vision of constructing 28 stadiums across the country, we have already come across Thika Stadium , the Nandi overhaul, and the Migori revamp.
President William Ruto has now laid the first stone for a KSH 950 million Voi Stadium in Voi Town, Taita Taveta County. The stadium is expected to have a 10,000-seater capacity. The primary target of the facility, as conveyed by the president, is to uplift the grassroots-level athletes and provide them with quality training and equipment accessibility.

This move was welcomed with two other major announcements. One of the marketplaces for which KSH 300 million has been allocated. Apart from this, an extensive railway line has also been proclaimed by the president.
Event based sports infrastructural overhaul
All these advancements are being made in an event-driven approach whereby President Ruto has used AFCON '27 as an anchor to revamp the sports infrastructure ecosystem of the country.
“As the Pamoja AFCON co-hosting countries, we remain fully committed to delivering a world-class AFCON 2027 that will not only meet but exceed continental and global expectations. This multi-sectoral approach is deliberate, ensuring that our institutional capacity is fully aligned with the scale, complexity, and urgency of preparations required to host a tournament of AFCON’s magnitude,” the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Salim Mvurya, affirmed.
