Krishna River Review Sparks Andhra’s Water Sports Surge
A strategic survey along the Krishna River, led by Balaji Maradapa and Tarun Kakani, highlights plans to develop rowing hubs across key locations like Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and Suryalanka.

With allocations worth ₹1106 crore exclusively for constructing 53 Khelo India sports centers, Andhra had already made a statement on its priority to emerge as the next sporting capital.
Stadiums like the Dibang-based Anini stadium are getting FIFA certifications, and with the renovation of the ACA stadium, Andhra is working on its comprehensive development plan anchored around sports.
Not to forget about the non-traditional sports, the state is preparing to actualize its potential there too.A holistic survey was conducted along the Krishna River by the President of the Rowing Federation of India,president Balaji Maradapa, and the president of the Sculling and Rowing Association of Andhra Pradesh, Tarun Kakani, in order to promote rowing competitions and other water adventure sports in the area.

Significant facts about the meeting
The project has been targeted to be carried out on funds from the CSR initiatives as well as the Target Olympic Podium Scheme.A meeting was held earlier this week to discuss the status of the rowing ecosystem in the state. Dr. Tarun Kakani and Balaji Maradapa met with S. Bharani, Managing Director of the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP), to throw light on the scope of improvement of water sports in the city.Talks were held about establishing rowing centers across major areas like Suryalanka, Vijayawada, and Visakhapatnam, along with an additional center at Jangareddygudem.
Wave of water sports development
The Rowing Federation counterparts of the meet have promised equipment provision along with technical support for all these projects.This initiative aligned with Uttarakhand's project on developing adventure water sports along the Tehri Lake are all in line with India's vision to develop traditional and non-traditional sports throughout its diaspora.
