Roadmap to the refurbishment plan
The renovations include the installation of new entry gates along with the refurbishment of the older ones. Peripheral facilities are also being focused upon to manage the extensive crowd with new pathways and the creation of a new holding area adjacent to the national cricket academy facility. New direct entry and exit gates were also installed as a safety precaution during emergency situations.
To prevent tragedies like the Royal Challengers Bangalore victory celebration stampede, which took as many as 11 lives, the Justice D'Cunha Committee had made recommendations to provide a much-needed makeover ahead of the IPL matches. Following the guidelines, the Karnataka State Cricket Association had decided to complete the initial revamping plans by the 15th of March.
After the elections of the KSCA, whereby former Indian seamer Venkatesh Prasad was elected as the president, the association submitted a thorough inspection and structural audit of the stadium to an experts review committee, after which the renovations started in December 2025. The association is all determined to resolve all safety issues of the venue, with the problem of the electricity regulatory body regarding the power supply cut in July already catered to.
Not leaving any stone unturned, the panel has also communicated with rail metro services to smooth the crowd movement, along with RCB to go digital by allowing its fans to enter via QR code scanning centres, which shall prevent overcrowding around the ticket area that redeems online ones instead of physical ones on the match day. The Karnataka government has made sanctions in its recent budget for major sports infrastructural haul with a union push building facilities like a Mandya-based stadium for the state's vision.
