The Chinnaswamy Stadium]stampede leading to a major stadium refurbishment was a highlight for the entire IPL 2026 community. After the CAG's report accusing the entire sports infrastructure to be centered on 2 major districts, the Karnataka Housing Board is now making amendments with a marvelous stadium in pipeline.
The Board has declared tenders for a second international stadium having an 80,000-seater capacity to be located in Anekal along the outskirts of the city. The targeted project is being planned at Indlawadi, in Suryanagara 4th Phase.

The estimated cost of ₹943.46 crore is being sanctioned for the completion of the project. “The objective is to create a world-class facility capable of hosting international cricket as well as large-format events throughout the year,” a senior government official said.
Tragic stampede at RCB celebrations as a trigger
A major impetus and instant trigger for such a large-scale project was the stampede at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. After Justice John Michael Cunha Committee had deemed the stadium unfit for marquee events due to its infrastructural inadequacies, the Karnataka Housing Board needed a comeback plan to host the most awaited season of India.
Why outskirts?
The complex has been planned to be built on the outskirts in order to overcome the constraints of hosting large events. “There is a clear need to decongest existing infrastructure. A larger venue on the outskirts allows better crowd management, parking, and emergency access,” the official said.
