The inauguration was attended by both Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui and MLA M Ampareen Lyngdoh. “In trying to address systemic issues, we often lose sight of the student. When we brought the focus back to learners, we began to see change,” CM Conrad said.
Highlights about the vision of the targeted sports complex
The significance of the indoor sports hall can be highlighted by giving resilience against the extreme weather conditions of Meghalaya. Shillong, especially known for its heavy rainfall, requires indoor sports infrastructure to be able to sustain the sports amidst the developmental gaps. The facility shall aid inter as well as intra college events along with improving student comfort and inclusivity.
These initiatives shall reduce regional disparities in sports infrastructure. It shall enable the budding athletes to pursue education from a more comprehensive perspective, having games and academics.“When we began focusing on students as the core of education, we started seeing meaningful changes,” CM Conrad said, urging stakeholders to prioritize students in all the fields, including sports infrastructure. With synthetic tracks also being inaugurated in Khasi and Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya is signaling towards a comprehensive sports infrastructure overhaul.
