Rajnath Singh Attends Khel Mahakumbh, Highlights ₹5000 Crore Boost to Grassroots Sports
India’s grassroots-first sports model gains momentum as the ‘Khel Mahakumbh’ initiative, launched by Anurag Thakur and Sachin Tendulkar, continues to expand its reach

India's sports development has been programmed in a pyramidal way, with the grassroots level penetration of sporting ecosystems forming the base layer of this structure.
The parliament itself has intervened to organize Sansad Khel Mahakumbh across states with the sole motive of aiding the youth to gain access to quality sports infrastructure and training on ground 0.
Cabinet Minister of Defense, Rajnath Singh, attended the Uttar Pradesh counterpart of this initiative. He inaugurated the event at the capital city of Lucknow with a strong message of diversifying India's reach to non-traditional sports also.

What is the event all about?
Member of Parliament Sh. Anurag Thakur, along with legendary ace cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, launched ‘Khel Mahakumbh’ in May 2018. This bottom-up approach shall ensure sustainable growth of the sports industry.The 3-day event shall be conducted at the KD Singh Babu Stadium.The minister signaled towards a ₹5000 crore investment already made towards Indian sports infrastructure development.
"Modern sports infrastructure is now being developed even in the vicinity of villages. Even in the remotest corners of the country, superior grounds, modern stadiums, and state-of-the-art training facilities are being established. Here in Uttar Pradesh as well, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is investing thousands of crores in sports projects. Sports facilities in Lucknow, too, are undergoing rapid expansion," Rajnath Singh said.
UP's masterplan for sports infrastructure development
The event shall have sports like athletics, football, volleyball, kabaddi, taekwondo, basketball, hockey, and boxing, which have been planned in 2 separate phases.With the latest announcement of to Ghaziabad's Raj Nagar receive an atrocity with a ₹400 crore stadium as the centerpiece, UP has enforced its commitment towards sports advancements. The Gorakhpur stadium was another marvelous addition to the sporting landscape of UP.
