Tehran Municipality Confirms 35 Sports Facilities Damaged in 40-Day Standoff
Despite infrastructural destrcution caused by the recent 40-day conflict, Tehran has rapidly revived its sports facilities for public use.

Amid rising tensions in Iran, the Tehran Municipality's Sports Organisation has confirmed that 35 sports facilities across the capital city sustained damage during the recent 40-day military standoff. The restoration efforts began in no time, as the majority of sports facilities have resumed for public use.
Hossein Ojaghi, CEO of the Tehran Municipality’s Sports Organization, noted the impact of the conflict was widespread but the city’s sports facilities have quickly resumed operations. Ojaghi confirmed that three sports facilities, the Eskandarlo complex, the Azadegan Water Park, and the Shahid Esmaeili complex were struck directly during the 40-day conflict, while the remaining 32 facilities faced minor to moderate structural destruction.
Current restoration of sports facilities in Tehran
A total of 160 sports complexes are maintained by the Tehran Municipality. As of late April 2026, 140 of these total facilities have regained fully operational status after undergoing technical and structural repairs, Ojaghi confirmed.
To bring normalcy in Tehran, Ojaghi said: “Rebuilding these sports complexes is a strategic imperative to restore vitality to the city.” He further expressed the Tehran Municipality’s Sports Organisation’s plans to address severely damaged sports facilities under the second phase of reconstruction.
Commitment to build a sports community in Tehran
Despite the setback, Tehran Municipality’s Sports Organisation remains committed towards the “Champion of the City” initiative, a grassroots talent identification program for the capital’s youth. With 140 sports facilities in Tehran back to normal operations, the capital city is preparing to host the fifth edition of the “Champion of the City” tournament.
Ojaghi commented that apart from rebuilding sports infrastructure in Tehran, the organisation is also focusing on specialised sports programs for youth and teenagers to help build a strong sports ecosystem in the capital city.
Sportscape believes the sports facilities’ reconstruction process in Tehran reflects the city’s continued resilience and the Municipality’s Sports organisation’s continued efforts to build a sports community in the capital city.
