UK Shares Infrastructure Blueprint with Gujarat for Commonwealth Games 2030
Officials in Gandhinagar convened a strategic roundtable with a UK delegation on Commonwealth Day to learn from the legacy of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham

They say one should always learn from the experience of others to prepare ourselves for our best performance, which is exactly what Gandhinagar was seen doing in its international meet with the delegates of the UK ahead of hosting the prestigious Commonwealth Games 2030.
The British deputy commissioner in Ahmedabad, partnering with the Gujarat government, organized a round table conference on the esteemed Commonwealth Day for strategic guidance and infrastructural push.Organized by the West Midlands Growth Company, the meet witnessed as many as 38 leaders from the UK passing the baton of the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth and sharing valuable insights on requisite infrastructural hauls for the success of the event.

Significant presence of the meet
The meet witnessed infrastructural consultants from both ends, with the British counterpart panel including infrastructure consulting firm AECOM, asset management and construction consultant Currie & Brown, infrastructure consultancy Buro Happold, and Mott MacDonald.
The Indian side of the panel had Sports Authority of Gujarat Director General I. R. Vala, Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani, and representatives of the Gujarat Sports Infrastructure Development Board and consulting firms including Populous, Deloitte, PwC, EY, and sports training centers.
"The discussions focused on creating infrastructure that can continue to be used even after 2030,” said a participant representing a British firm.
Experience enriched infrastructural insights
Among other valuable insights, the UK delegation shared that the marquee events had raised £1.2 billion worth of economic injection with 22000 jobs created and the sale of 1.5 million tickets. Keeping this scale in mind, dedicated planning and discussions were carried out regarding the stadium designs, crowd management facilities, virtual ticketing services, and building of athlete villages. The RCB tragedy outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has kept India on guard to not underestimate the probability of dangerous accidents.Along with sports complexes like Sardar Vallabhai Patel Sports Enclave, the metropolitan services shall also be expanded, and EVs shall be made available with the possibility of infusion of technology to manage the footfall.
