After Winning T20 World Cup, DDA Plans Narela Based Multi Sports Complex Under PPP
After hosting this marquee victory, the Delhi Development Authority is now preparing to construct another stadium at Narela.

'India! India!' went the crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium as Team India won the T20 World Cup against New Zealand for the second consecutive year. The 132000-seater stadium witnessed the pure joy of hosting an international match within its premises, where its own home country emerged victorious.
After hosting this marquee victory, the Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena announced that the Delhi Development Authority shall construct stadium at Narela ahead of the sports transformation aim for olympics 2036. The facility has been planned across the G3 and G4 sectors of the Narela subcity and will accommodate 80,000 spectators, exceeding the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium by one-third.Officials announced a bid of ₹36 crores to hire a consultant for the project, who will be entitled to a licensing fee of ₹19.4 crores.
“The proposed integrated sports complex in Narela is being planned as a large multidisciplinary facility that can host major sporting events, concerts and events and also provide training and recreational infrastructure," said an official.

The project has been planned to decongest the mainstream areas of Delhi; hence, its location beside the Holambi village makes it an ideal choice, giving access to the nearby National Highway 1 and the Urban Extension Road II (UER II). The facility has been proposed to include facilities for spectators as well as the training athletes supporting games like badminton courts, squash courts, table tennis halls, wrestling and boxing arenas, gymnasium areas and multipurpose halls for training and competitions. Outdoor sports arenas have also been considered for games like football, tennis courts, cricket grounds, volleyball courts, basketball and swimming facilities, according to project plans.
The complex shall only be constructed in 35% of the area, while 65% of it shall be utilised for other commercial activities like hotels and offices, since the project is being pursued under the private-public partnership model. Other notable projects include a 70,000-seater stadium as DDA aims for world-class cricket infrastructure.
